Reese described the moment as life-changing but expressed frustration with the extreme reactions from fans. “It’s really just the fans—her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans—that are really just, they ride for her, and I respect that. But sometimes it’s very disrespectful,” Reese said. She also pointed out troubling instances of racism and harassment directed at her.
Reese revealed she has received death threats and experienced invasive harassment, including AI-generated images of her inappropriately sent to her family. “People have come down to my address, followed me home,” Reese shared. “It sucks having to go through that and see other players have to go through that.”
Despite Clark’s rising prominence in women’s basketball, which has boosted attendance and viewership, the surrounding discourse can become toxic. Clark has publicly denounced fans using her name to advance bigoted agendas against her opponents.
